Identity
displayed and reflected
In an array of
colourful costumes
We play like
children
Dressing up as
heroes and heroines
Of the tales we
spin
By following one
thought
After another
Enslaved by the
stories
Of who we are and
who we are not
We build our own
prisons
Solidify our
experiences
And convince each
other that
Naked awareness
Is in need of
dressing up
'we play like children'..great line..life can be about costume wearing..we can make ourselves heroes..heroines..or not..Jae
ReplyDeletewe are enslaved by who we are, till we try a new costume and it changes us

verification makes it really hard to comment. you'd get more comments if you turned it off. i had to do this several times to get it to work.
I like the thought of raw consciousness and not, exactly, dressing it up. Interesting direction to take the prompt.
ReplyDeleteOh hear, hear!, Bravo! and all that. Beautiful bit, this. From’ Enslaved by the stories’ on to the brilliant punch of an ending is the naked truth!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. I turned word verification off now :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether we could all take 'naked awareness.'
ReplyDeleteI like your line..."enslaved by the stories of who we are and who we are not...yes, we can spin webs that wrap around our own souls.
ReplyDeleteWow! The ending is a stunner. Great poem of the costumes we wear.
ReplyDeleteApril would agree with you. One of my favourite movies.
