No one would have believed
A hundred years ago
The many things so normal for us today
And no one believes today
That other things
May be normal for us in the future
Did you believe
You would live the life you live now?
Do you believe
In the life you want to live in the future?
It is easy to believe
In what you want to believe
The mental concepts we hold
Influence our perception
And our thoughts create our world
What do you want to believe in?
Very thought provoking indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe mental concepts we hold influence our perception ... excellent poem! :o)

ReplyDeleteTime will always move forward. Your poem shows that in a different way..
ReplyDeletemy monkey reads you well
I agree with Gautami that time will always move forward. But, we with our memories that shape our mental concepts can still influence our perceptions by allowing new thoughts, attitudes, whatever to be a distinct and essential aspect of our existence. How else do we grow into any future we might envision for ourselves and the world around us?

Thanks for your comments. I think the poem is about both: impermanence itself which we can't influence and the power of our mind and our beliefs to influence how things change or in what direction. I'd like to think that we always have a choice in how we interact with the changing nature of things.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I needed today! Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it lightened up your day :-)
