The pursuit of happiness (for We Write Poems)

Oh how to catch
Such an elusive creature
If you don’t know
What it looks like
Can’t describe
A single feature
Wouldn’t recognise it
If it bit you on the arse
In some cases
The pursuit of happiness
Seems like a farce

  5. Oh yes, elusive it can be, as so can be the words to describe it. Well done.

  6. Ah, but you are a poet and you can create your own reality for your words are powerful. Spoken words are gone with the wind while those written will stay with you to the end. Because you are a poet keep your head high. Here's one of my poems dedicated to poets.

  12. It's true: sometimes we're so busy pursuing happiness that we only recognise it once it's passed us.

  13. Have to wonder if happiness is just a hologram we pursue because we like the sound of it. Good take on the prompt,

  15. Indeed, wasting time pursuing something we apparently have no clue about, would be a farce. Love this poem, everything about it, including the fact that it made me giggle.

  16. I agreee with you sometime fo sure...the pursuit of anything can turn out to be a farce. Happiness sometimes is especially elusive.

  17. Yes, it does. But hope is eternal, isn't it?

  19. Interesting take on this prompt and you are so right. Sometimes it (happiness) just gets misplaced after you haven't seen it in a while. Illusive but worth the hunt. This poem did make me laugh. :)

  20. Thank you all for stopping by and commenting. I'm glad it made you laugh. It was intended to be lighthearted in highlighting that "chasing" happiness often causes us to miss it when it's right in front of us (or behind for that matter ;-)

  21. And how true your statement in this poem is. Oftentimes, we are chasing after something that we haven't really visualized or isn't yet palpable in our minds and hearts yet.
